DESCRIPTION:

A popular upright Maple celebrated for its vibrant foliage, elegant form and distinctive blackish red bark. Can handle full sun however, benefits from dappled or afternoon shade. Summer foliage is stunning with purple-red tones that turn a vibrant scarlet-red during Autumn. Maintains colour well even in shaded conditions. Similar to Bloodgood however grows more vigorously.

FOLIAGE:

Leaves emerge as deep maroon with a translucent sheen turning a stunning purple-red in Summer. Autumn brings vibrant scarlet-red colouring

COMMENTS:

Noted for is frost resistance as leaves emerge about two weeks later than the other red cultivars helping to protect new growth. It maintains its colour well, even in shaded positions. Handles sun well compared to many other Japanese Maples, though benefits fromo dappled or afternoon shade.

TREE CARE:

Plant in a well-drained and well-worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level. Water in well and keep the soil moist until the tree is established. Fertilise when planting and again after new growth appears. Prune to shape if necessary.
